I have a bunch of stamps and would like to start using them to make cards and on some layouts but, I can only put a few sets at my desk and I am really having trouble deciding what I would use more. What types of stamps do you use most?

Plants/vegetation, geometrics, numbers, letters, backgrounds, words/phrases. Pretty much everything! Lol not much help to you, sorry.

Backgrounds (especially patterns), Geometric Shapes and Sentiments/Labels. With those three types I can create just about any craft :)

Words words words.  I love stamping, but don't make many cards.  I find that words are exactly what I need/want to add to my scrapbook pages!

I like stamps that I can use in many different ways.  My favorite sets that I have right now are sentiment sets that I can build the sentiments from individual words in it and sets like the basic stripes.  Because stamps are a bit of an investment, I am intentional in only buying sets that I will use at least 5 times (more likely 10+)

I'm a floral person so I have a lot of those, next would be sentiments. I teach card making classes in my home so I do try to buy a variety plus I don't stamp on my layouts.

Food and travel! My fave photos to scrap are travel photos and well, I like to eat. I also like Ali Edward's handwritten stamps for more everyday themes.

I seem to collect a lot of travel stamps, but I don't use them as much as I'd like!

I tend to use graphic stamps with fonts and shapes the most.  I love background stamps too.  I buy a lot of word and phrase stamps, but often I can't use the phrases on my layouts.  I need to work on using those stamps more.
