I have a few backgrounds painted with acrylic paint. What is the best pen or marker for writing on top of them?

Sharpies and similar marker pens are good. Also Posca & Molotov paint pens are excellent.

I am addicted to pens and markers, so I have tried most of them. My favorite black pens are the Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens which come in different nibs and sizes and are permanent when dry. My favorite white pen is the Sharpie Water-Based Poster Paint Marker which is available in fine and extra fine. The Sharpie Poster Paint Markers also come in lots of colors, including gold and silver. Other favorites are the Molotow Acrylic Paint Markers and the Sakura Gelly Roll Moonlight Gel Pens.

The secret to writing with any pen over acrylic is to make sure the acrylic is dry. Even slightly wet paint will quickly clog up the pen.
